Don’t blend the goldfish

In the spirit of anti procrastination – which seems to be this month’s focus… Let’s think about how mindless activities can impact how badly we procrastinate. I think in general, it hits us worse in the winter because it’s cold, and often not nice to be outside with freezing temperatures and nasty precipitation. It all makes us not really want to do much, especially those pesky tasks that we have already been putting off. In fact I think we can forget all about them without much effort and just ride the wave of mindlessness – going through our day however the wind takes us.

What if we paid more attention to what we were doing and how we were moving?

Anyone ever get to work, and be kind of surprised that you have arrived? Can’t seem to remember much of the drive? Mindlessness….

What about when you open a big bag a chips when watching a movie or sitting at the computer, only to reach in to realize the bag is empty… how shocking does that feel when you’ve eaten the whole bag? Mindlessness….

That’s what happens if we aren’t careful. Today gets started, and you jump on the wave, no real plan in place, because sometimes the goal is just to get through it.

Am I right? Often we ride the wave of life, without much attention to what we are doing or where we are going. But one thing can change all of that… Pay Attention; focus on being aware of your surroundings, and what is happening in the moment.

There are some beautiful things to see and experience if we are just watching for them.

We are all busy; sometimes each day feels busier than the last. But what would happen if we were more aware of how we wanted that day to unfold, and moved with more intention? Would it will help us get our work done; and spend time doing the right things; with the important people in our lives… with intention? You bet! It changes everything.

I read somewhere once that accidents happen when two people meet that are both moving mindlessly. That makes sense to me, you aren’t in the moment and your reaction time wouldn’t be the same, and you probably wouldn’t see it coming until it was too late. Don’t let this be you, or as above, don’t blend the goldfish!

Let today be the day you move with intention, do what needs to be done and feel accomplished and successful at the end of your day!

Come on over to my blog and tell me how you paid attention today and how you felt about the whole thing, I’d love to hear about it!

Wishing you a happy and productive day!

Cathy
